A: "Collegial."

Q: What would you say are the top three reasons to join Stikeman Elliott?

A: "The people you will work with, the quality of the work you will be given, and the resources at your disposal."

A: "First, the strength of the lawyers, who are as passionate about being legal professionals as they are about being dedicated mentors. Second, the breadth of the learning opportunities, which are second to none. And third, the diversity of our community."

A: "You get a lot of responsibility early on, which allows you to develop your legal skills at an accelerated pace. The people. The vast majority of people seem to genuinely enjoy working here. The nature of the files. No matter what your primary area of interest is, you're guaranteed to always be working on some of Canada's biggest and most interesting deals, lawsuits or investigations."

A: "You will be given work that will really challenge you, you will be an integral member of the team, and your initiative will be encouraged and appreciated. . The people here are really friendly, keep their doors open, and are more than willing to answer your questions and give you the guidance you ask for."

A: "The level of responsibility given to students. The mutual respect between everyone at the firm. The industry-leading files that the firm works on."

Q: What surprised you the most about the firm during the recruitment process? 

A: "How candid the lawyers were about their experiences (work and personal) and how engaged/familiar the interviewers were with my application."

A: "What surprised me was how outgoing, interesting, and forthcoming everyone I met was. From the articling students who met us and showed us around as we went from interview to interview, to the partners and associates conducting the interviews, I felt that everyone took a genuine interest and really tried to get to know me. It made me feel comfortable and welcome right off the bat."

Q:What surprised you most about the firm after you joined? 

A: "Students have the opportunity to pursue a wide variety of work based on their areas of interest and are given significant responsibilities right from the start."

A: "I was surprised by how much care is put into student development. I had multiple informal meetings with my mentors and unofficial mentors over the course of the summer where they simply wanted to "check in" to make sure I was working on files that interested and challenged me."

A: "Casual Fridays!"

A: "At Stikeman Elliott students and lawyers alike are given the autonomy and authority to innovate, create and contribute to a leading corporate law firm. I was most surprised by the fact that at Stikeman Elliott students are treated like lawyers from day one."

A: "The fact that the lawyers here are actually friends outside the office."

A: "I was happy to walk back into the firm and experience the same kindness, support, and good humor I observed during the recruitment process."

A: "The proximity to the work. Students are immediately working on challenging files and speaking directly to a senior associate or partner."

A: "Amazing resources - knowledge management system, research lawyers, administrative services, library staff, legal administrative assistants, great training in summer and articling."

Q: How would you describe the environment at the firm?

A: "We take our work seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously."

A: "Professional and accessible."

A: "Hard-working and friendly."

A: "Friendly. High-performing."

Q: What has been your best experience at Stikeman Elliott?

A: "Seeing legal arguments I drafted published on the front page of major Canadian newspapers!"

A: "Conducting a small-claims court trial on my own (and winning)!"

A: "My best experience at Stikeman Elliott was was going to the Austrian Chamber of Commerce's annual Trade Conference to represent the firm on my own. It was very encouraging that the firm was comfortable sending me to network with clients and prospective clients."

A: "After working intensely on a research memo for a litigation file, I was invited to attend a hearing where I saw Adrian Lang and Erica Tait in action. Watching them argue it in court and expertly handle the tough questions that the judge put to them was inspiring-I will never forget it."

A: "Being asked to assist on a particular file and attending the arbitration with a partner, associate and our client was definitely the highlight of my summer experience. I really felt like my opinion mattered and I was always asked to participate in the brainstorming sessions before and after each appearance."

Q: What has been your favourite social event at the firm?
A: "Bowling. Definitely bowling."

A: "Blue Jays Game."

A: "Cocktails in the backyard at Anne Ristic's place."

A: "SPiN Ping Pong."

A: "The firm-wide soccer match."

Q: What myth about Stikeman Elliott do you most want to dispel?

A: "The myth that you have to act or behave a certain way in order to fit in with the firm's culture. It's simply not true. Just be yourself."

A: "That we are all work and no play - we find plenty of time to play!"
