Stikeman Elliott
Intellectual Property

Stikeman Elliott's Intellectual Property Group provides a full range of services relating to trademarks. The IP Group renders opinions regarding the availability of trademarks, and files and prosecutes applications to register trademarks in Canada. Members of the IP Group also represent clients in opposition proceedings and cancellation proceedings before the Registrar of Trademarks and in infringement and cancellation actions before the Federal Court.

In support of Stikeman Elliott's Mergers & Acquisitions practice, the IP Group performs due diligence to enable clients to assess trademarks in the context of investments in, or the acquisition of, a business. The IP Group can offer advice regarding enforcement and registration of security interests in intellectual property assets in general, and trademarks in particular.

Through our offices outside Canada and our worldwide network of contacts, the IP Group can co-ordinate the clearance, registration, enforcement and defence of trademarks in foreign countries.
