How to Apply
Toronto law students

Are you currently recruiting?
We will be participating in the 2018 summer student recruitment period. We are not participating in the 2017/2018 articling recruitment process.

How should I submit my application? Should I send my application by email, fax or mail?
If you are applying for an articling or summer law student position, we will only be accepting applications electronically and you must submit your application through the online portal, which can be accessed here. Please address your cover letter to the attention of:

Susan Pak
Director, Student Programs and Professional Development
Stikeman Elliott LLP
5300 Commerce Court West
199 Bay Street
Toronto, Canada M5L 1B9

What do I need to include as part of my application?
Your application package should include your cover letter, resume, a list of your current and proposed upper year course selection and official academic transcripts from all post secondary institutions attended (original transcripts are not required, copies are sufficient). We are also happy to receive reference letters, but they are not required. We do not require writing samples.

Please include a current email address in your application, as we often communicate with candidates by email - especially during the articling student and summer student recruitment processes.

Please also include the phone number where you can be reached in Toronto during interview week in the event that we need to reach you.

When will I hear from you once I've submitted an application?
You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt email once we receive your application.

For articling student candidates, we will be in touch with you prior to Call Day by email to let you know whether we will be contacting you on Call Day.

For summer student candidates, your law school will inform you directly about whether you will be meeting with us during OCIs (unless your law school requests that we contact you directly). After meeting with candidates at OCIs, we will contact you by email in advance of Call Day to let you know whether we will be calling you on Call Day.

Can I contact students or lawyers at the firm in advance of my interview at the firm to ask questions that I have?
Absolutely! We encourage you to be in touch with our current students about what it's like to be a student at Stikeman Elliott. Our students are an excellent resource during this process and are happy to chat with you. Please also feel free to contact the members of the Students Committee and other lawyers at the firm.

How should I go about arranging my schedule during interview week for articling or summer student positions?
We suggest that you schedule your interviews in 2 hour timeslots so that you leave ample time to meet with our lawyers when you visit with us. We would like to give you lots of time to meet with our lawyers and students so that you have a real opportunity to get a sense of what it's like to be a student and lawyer at Stikeman Elliott.

For summer student and articling student recruitment, we generally hold first interviews on both Monday and Tuesday, and like to schedule follow-up interviews on Tuesday and Wednesday so that you can come back and meet with more people at the firm to learn more about us.
