OSC and BCSC Sign Oversight Agreement Regarding the Canadian Securities Exchange

July 21, 2020

On July 16, the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) announced that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) regarding the oversight of the Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE).

Under to the MOU, the OSC and BCSC agree to cooperate and coordinate their efforts concerning the CSE, including by sharing information in respect of oversight activities and harmonizing regulatory actions as much as possible. According to the MOU, the agreement is intended to ensure that oversight is carried out “efficiently and effectively”, while reducing the regulatory burden on the CSE under the existing multiple regulator system.

The MOU will come into effect once all Ministerial approvals are obtained.
